In the middle of the Atlantic ocean
floats a family of volcanic islands called the Açores. Somewhere in the middle of the middle rises the tallest mountain of them all in Portugal. The mountain and the island are both called the Peak (or Pico in Portuguese).
And north of Pico Island, also somewhere in the middle, is a picturesque town called São Roque (meaning Saint Roque in English). There between the ocean and the peak, children love to play, so do grown-ups.

Play Truck
It began with a swing which was installed as part of the Christmas decoration of the São Roque Junta. Small things such as chalks, stones and sticks were placed on the swing for curious children to play with. And children do come every day to play! Can it be the beginning of more playfulness among the community?

PlayLabs
The world-renowed Bruno Munari Method® for children creativity is coming to the Açores! Through a subtle design of spaces and tools, children are encouraged to explore and experiment in an atmosphere of freedom fully expressing their uniqueness. This is the beginning of a confident child who braves the future with ease and grace.
The first PlayLabs were organised in April 2025 by the Cultural Association and Parents' Association of São Roque, kindly supported by the Câmara Municipal de São Roque do Pico and the Municipal Library.
